How To Play
What is SauceDot?
Back in 2000 a small group of friends used to submit websites to each other via email and say stuff like "hey, check this site out?" Typically, one of us would reply all with "Oh, yeah...have you seen *this* site?" Trying to trump the first website with something even better. The problem was keeping track of all these great sites and determining who was the best and finding the best sites. SauceDot was the solution!
Why SauceDot?
S.A.U.C.E. was originally named after the acronym "Submit A URL Contest, or Else" - we just call it "SauceDot" now.
How do I submit a website for the contest?
- Find a must-see website to rival all other submissions.
- Login to SauceDot.
- Submit your URL and a description that will 'sell-it' to the voters.
- Use ratings to tell viewers if the site is safe to view at work or with people viewing over your shoulder.
- Indicate using the checkboxes for site requirements (ie Flash, Quicktime, Real, etc).
- Submission and vote deadlines are always displayed with the contest details.
Why can't I submit a website?
- Submissions are only accepted during the posted contest submission window.
- You have already submitted a site to the current contest. - 1 submission/user/contest.
- You are not a registered user.
- You are not logged into your account.
How do I vote?
- The voting window immediately follows the submission window. The voting window times are displayed in the contest details area.
- One vote per contest / user.
- Visit all the submissions and vote for your favorite site
What's with the "( 0 )" after usernames?
- The number following the user's name indicates the total number of votes that user's entries have received this year.
- Hint: the bigger the number the better.
How do I change my user image?
- New users get the default mystery silhouette for a user image but this can be changed on the options page.
- Uploaded custom user images can be any size but will be scaled to 64x64.
Who/What is the Yearly Uber Saucer?
- The Yearly Uber Saucer is the player with the highest cumulative vote count for the current calendar year.
- Yearly Uber Saucer vote counts are re-set to zero every January 1st.
- Tip: Consistent participation can do wonders for your vote count total (even if you don't win the short contests).
- The current Yearly Uber Saucer can be seen on the Winners page.
- The Yearly Uber Saucer also gets the highly sought after crown displayed after their display name:

Who/What is the Last Contest Uber Saucer?
- The Last Contest Uber Saucer is a short lived title given to the player whose site submission got the most votes in the most recent contest.
- In the event of a voting tie - whichever site was submitted first will win.
- The Last Contest Uber Saucer can be seen on the Winners page.
- The Last Contest Uber Saucer also gets the highly sought after crown displayed after their display name:

Why is some of the information hidden during the active contest?
- We hide the name of the submitter and the number of votes it has received while the contest is active. Check the archive for all the details for past contests.
- This prevents players from being swayed in their votes by having info on who submitted the site or how many votes it has received.
- In earlier versions of SauceDot this information was exposed and players became biased.
Any tips for new players?
- Take notice what submissions get the most votes
- Submit early for each contest which will give you the winning position in the event of a tie
- Submit your entry, review other entries (laugh), vote on your favorite entry, repeat. Have fun!
- Throughout the site, we use these emoticons.
